TIPS FOR YOUR PERSONAL ACTOR/MODEL PHOTO SHOOT

The first impression an agent, manager or casting director will have of you will come from your headshot or comp card. That first call is very important. Once you’re in, you can impress them with your talents. To get that call, it’s important you spend the time and energy to invest in good photographs. Headshot Photos and Model Comp Cards are one of your most valuable marketing tools, don’t skimp in this area.

FOR ACTORS: WHAT IMAGE ARE YOU LOOKING TO CREATE?
The image you create will say a lot about your “type” or how you will be “cast”, so if you’re looking to play that dark and sinister part, create that person in your photo. If you want to look professional, choose clothing that will reflect that- business suits, etc., you get the point. Choose clothing that will be consistent with the look you are shooting for. Your photo shoot is just like acting out a part- get into that role and act it out at your shoot.

FOR MODELS: WHAT IMAGE ARE YOU LOOKING TO CREATE?
Runway, bathing suit, clothing, lingerie, the image you create will say a lot about your “type”. If you want to work in a specialized area, your images need to reflect that look, so make sure you choose clothing that will reflect that. What you show is what you'll get, consider having multiple comp cards for different areas of work. I offer discounts if you want me to work with you to create different style comp cards from multiple photo shoots.

PICKING YOUR WARDROBE
Again, clothing needs to support who you are and your image.
Especially for actor headshots, solid colors are always the best, avoid prints, polka dots, stripes, and try to avoid using white unless you will be in a setting that will allow your face to be the prominent eye catching focus of the photo, not the bright white top. Your wardrobe should compliment you. Deep V necks, straps or sleeveless tops etc., will give you a sexier look if that is what you are going for, and try to avoid clothing that doesn’t fit well or is hanging off your body unless that’s a specific look you’re trying to achieve.

For models, if you are looking for swimsuit modeling, then make sure you have as many swimsuits as possible for your shoot, and likewise for any other work you may be going after.

ALWAYS BRING MORE CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES THAN YOU NEED TO YOUR SHOOT!

THE FINER DETAILS: HAIR & MAKEUP
Hair and makeup greatly affect your image. Too much, or too little can make a huge difference in the final results. What would that character you’re trying to play wear; a business person would have a neat appearance and well defined or light make-up, where a young teen or young adult would have a light, fresh look.

  • Feel free to bring your own professional hair and makeup artist for touch-ups (not to be styled prior to your shoot at my location unless previous arrangements have been made, and they should have experience working with a photographer and photographers lighting)

  • We will shoot a test shot to show you what you look like before getting started so you could check the look to make sure it’s exactly what YOU want. I like to take this extra step because it's important for you to be completely happy with your photos and the way you want to look in them.

    MOST IMPORTANT SUGGESTION
Rest is BEST. Get plenty of rest the night before your shoot. The day of your shoot you allow enough time for your drive to either my studio or location. Feel free to bring music you like listening to if that will help get you in the right mood for your shoot. Also don’t forget to bring your favorite soft drink and energy bar snack if you think you'll need a little boost. Try to avoid any sources of stress. From experience, leave anyone or anything at home that would cause you stress, you need to be at your absolute best the day of your shoot. The only people allowed on set when I shoot are those there working with me and you. I don't allow spectators and you don't want anyone there that isn't working for you that day. When we start shooting, you need to be focused on what you are doing, not worrying about who's there with you.

I look forward to our photography session and working with you.

    * The number of images which are color corrected and retouched is determined by the number of “looks” you choose based on our fee schedule, and those you choose to add for an additional fee.
